The Goa Tourism Department is planning to tie up with Nice, a picturesque city in France, to provide better facilities for tourists visiting the state capital, according to a PTI report. The tie-up would be done in specific areas such as rapid transportation systems and solid waste treatment. Both the cities will collaborate on these issues on a time-bound programme, senior officials said.
In the meantime, Goa is doing its ground work and planning. "In the coming weeks, we will be discussing the modalities of the exchange programme with the Commissioner of the City of Panjim (CCP)," Naik informed. A delegation from Goa is also likely to make a study tour to Nice. "Goa receives a large number of tourists every year and a rapid transportation system is essential to cope with the growing number of domestic and international tourists," he added.Nice has worked out an effective model to tackle the transportation issues. During a recent seminar in Goa, Rudy Salles, Deputy Mayor of Nice, listed initiatives like renting out cycles and fuel efficient cars including electric cars to tourists, and construction of pedestrian streets which were undertaken in Nice to make commuting hassle-free for tourists.
