Spain launches Facebook page Spain in India

The Tourism Office of Spain has launched a Facebook page for India called 'Spain in India.' According to Miguel Nieto-Sandoval, Director-India, Tourism Office of Spain, having a Facebook India page will help Spain Tourism position and promote the destination to an interested audience. “It will also help build brand awareness and educate the trade about the destination. The Spain page on Facebook is active since May 2010 and has over 3.9 lakh followers worldwide including 4,000 Indian followers,” informed Nieto-Sandoval. He also disclosed that on June 18, 2011 midnight, Spain Tourism’s official website, www.spain.info, will launch 'Spain addict,' this page will account for testimonials from consumers, trade and brand ambassadors. There are also plans to introduce a new slug on the home page to impart information relevant to media and trade.

The ‘Spain in India’ page will have two to three news feeds every week and updated information on events, festivals, trade fairs, music, pictures, food and interesting destinations in Spain. “The page is an informal way of communicating with people interested in Spain and we will try to make it as interactive as possible. To engage the customer, we will have contests, poll and discussion on a regular basis. Our motto of social media marketing is to increase brand awareness, educate, tap potential consumers and create visibility for the destination,” explained Nieto-Sandoval.

Spain as a destination is relatively unexplored in the Indian market. However, it is an aspiring destination, one generating lot of curiosity. The Tourism Board, in its marketing efforts, is focusing on high-end leisure and MICE segments in Indian market. According to Nieto-Sandoval, in Quarter I this year, Spain witnessed a 49 per cent increase in Indian tourist arrivals compared to the same period last year.
